Why am I so tired at school?

The short answer to this question is that you’re not getting enough sleep at night. That’s not usually your fault; most teenagers have so much homework and so many after-school activities that getting to bed on time is difficult. Most high schoolers in America are sleep deprived at some point during their time in school, and parents and teachers find themselves asking this question: why do teenagers sleep so much?

Many health organizations have spoken out against how early school starts in most parts of the United States, but schools are reluctant to change their hours. The best way to combat sleepiness at school is to find a way to get more sleep. Coffee and other drinks with caffeine will help you wake up, but that’s not a permanent solution. Consider talking to your parents about cutting back on after-school activities so you can finish your homework earlier and try to get to bed at a decent time. Teenagers generally need 7-9 hours of sleep a night, so plan accordingly when possible.
