What’s the difference between a job and a career?

Well, the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably. But in general, a “career” refers to an occupation that a person undertakes for a significant amount of time, and that offers plenty of room for growth and development within that profession.

This definition, of course, includes all the professions people usually associate with development and career paths. Including lawyers, doctors, engineers, and similar professions with clear career paths.

However, this definition means that a lot of professions that people count as gigs can be considered careers, depending on how you approach them. If you have a gig driving for a rideshare app, for example, that’s not a career — there isn’t really much room to grow. But if you then decide to use your experience to buy a small fleet of cars and rent them out to other rideshare drivers, then you have a career as an entrepreneur on your hands.
