Like many people, I’ve spent a lot of time having the ‘powerlifting belt vs weightlifting belt’ debate. The truth is, there are benefits to both, and it really depends on your personal skill level and fitness goals. I started using a powerlifting belt because I was training to be a powerlifter (seems obvious, right?). Because it’s so rigid, though, it’s only really useful for deadlifts and squats.
If you want more flexibility, for instance if you’re training for CrossFit or bodybuilding, then I’d say go for a weightlifting belt. This allows for snatches and clean and jerks.
Each option offers greater advantages for different types of exercise so you need to have confidence in the kind of workout you’re performing. And while doing your own research is good, the best way to find the right tools to train your body is to work alongside a personal trainer or another professional in the field.
