There are many beautiful towns in the Andes that will give you a feel of Ecuador’s rich history. For starters, there’s Quito which is named by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee as a city of patrimonial heritage in 1978. Quito features an interesting mix of European architecture and art which is why it is also called “Florence of the Americas”.
Take your historical adventure to the next level by visiting Riobamba. It is where you can find a historic center and there you’ll be able to get up close to one of the country’s oldest churches. Walking tours are ideal in this city because its roads are very pedestrian-friendly so if you’re up for an early morning or afternoon stroll, or a quick walk after a heavy dinner, Riobamba is the place to be.
One more town you must visit is Cuenca, considered as the second UNESCO World Heritage Site of Cultural Patrimony in the country. Its architecture –from its walkways and streets are reminiscent of 16th to 18th century history which will surely take you to memory lane.
