Being involved in a traffic collision is no joke and there are a number of steps that you need to take for legal reasons. Failing to do so could lead to major problems down the line. I was recently involved in a crash but fortunately, I knew exactly what to do and there weren’t any significant problems. No one was hurt and everything was sorted out in a fast and grown-up manner. If you are not to blame, then just stay calm, follow these tips, and you’ll be fine.

Firstly, talk to the driver of the vehicle you’ve crashed into. Make sure that you don’t accept any responsibility but instead just gather information. Let the other driver know that you’re prepared to involve traffic lawyers if necessary so that they don’t try to manipulate the situation. This is not a place for emotions and arguments but for the correct legal procedure to be followed.

Get their insurance details, then take plenty of photos of the scene. Be clear that you’re not passing blame but rather ensuring that all the facts are fully documented. Then, call the police to let them know what happened. Try to deescalate any tension and certainly don’t start any arguments or make any threats yourself. The calmer you are, the more the courts will favor you should any legal disputes emerge.

As you wait for the police, you should also ring your insurer and tell them what has happened. Again, remain calm and allow all the legal processes to take place. If you’ve done nothing wrong, then you have nothing to fear. Just try to explain what happened in as much detail as possible and get as many facts out there as possible. If you need to contact a traffic lawyer, then you can find one on Astor Legal.
