Litigation refers to the process of settling a dispute between two parties in court.

It’s quite a broad term that encompasses lots of different court proceedings but usually refers to only civil cases, such as lawsuits. In fact, some would argue that the terms ‘litigation’ and ‘lawsuit’ are synonymous with each other.

In case your unfamiliar with what a lawsuit is, it’s essentially a legal dispute between two different parties. This could be a customer and a retailer, two different businesses, a client and an organization, or anything else.

For example, let’s imagine that a customer in a store in London injures his/herself on a wet floor. They may want to seek damages if they feel it was caused by the store’s negligence.
They might hire litigation solicitors in London like http://www.vaneatonsolicitors.co.uk/  who may first try to settle out of court. If this isn’t possible, it will often be taken to civil court so that a judge can decide how to resolve it. This process is called litigation.
