I just got a new kitten and want to know what are the foods I need to keep her away from. Like are there any deadly/ dangerous foods to look out for?

So here are some that I personally avoid around my pets, especially my cats.

Onions: Onions can be harmful and even fatal for cats. The part of the onion that is toxic is not the vegetable (as some people believe) that is to say that it is not the green leaves or the white bulb at the end of the root – but rather the yellow part in between the two ends. This is the part that has to be removed before cooking and should not be given to your cat.

Macadamia nuts: Just like onions, macadamia nuts are also very toxic to cats. They contain a natural chemical called calcium oxalate, which gives them their crunchy texture. However, this chemical is a strong irritant and can cause severe throat and mouth tissue damage.

Grapes and raisins: This fruit is not as dangerous as others, but it can still cause serious kidney damage in cats. Basically, just avoid giving grapes or raisins to your cat under any circumstance, no matter how small the quantity may be.

Chocolate: Chocolate is not good for cats and should be avoided at all times. It can cause seizures, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors and heart arrhythmias. The darker the chocolate, the worse it is for cats. So, avoid giving them dark chocolate and always make sure they don’t eat any.

Nutmeg: Nutmeg contains an aromatic oil called myristicin, which causes hallucinations in cats – they will appear to be under the effect of drugs. As bad as that sounds, it’s actually not that harmful, but it can make your cat sick and uncomfortable.
