One of the biggest favors you can do for yourself is trying to find a family law lawyer who is both experienced and good at making you feel comfortable. Your attorney will be your biggest ally throughout this process, and you want that attorney to be an asset, instead of another source of stress. After all, you’ll already get enough reasons to get stressed from your former partner.
Speaking of your former partner, it’s a good idea to avoid antagonizing them during the divorce proceedings. It doesn’t matter who’s in the wrong or who started what, arguing with your former partner or badmouthing them to their friends and family won’t do anyone any good, and you don’t want to give your former partner a reason to make things harder for you. Focus on keeping things peaceful, at least until the divorce is finalized.
