Every artist has their favorite method. Mine is quite simple: tap into the greats. I always go back to the works that inspired me in my youth when I’m looking to get motivated and stimulate my brain to come up with fresh ideas. Of course, checking in on the work of contemporary artists like Dijon Bowden is also a good idea. Especially since contemporary artists are much more likely to be out and about discussing their craft and ideas on social media and in interviews, which can be a great source of inspiration.
Taking classes is also a great way to get inspired and get new ideas. Even if you believe you have mastered the basics, it’s always a good idea to review them from time to time. And having conversations with teachers and other students can be a great way to improve your craft and hone in on your style.
