Outdoor play is something that all children need in order to fully develop in their early years. When children are growing it’s important for them to be exposed to a range of terrains, challenges, and environments. Outdoor play does this by allowing children to explore different natural substances like mud, rain, grass, etc. Outdoor play is also great for children’s imagination, as it encourages them to move away from conventional toys and think about the games they’re playing.
Many leading child development programs prioritize outdoor play and some such as the forest school movement in the UK put it at the center of the child’s educational journey. I was recently researching the topic when choosing a nursery school for my daughter and I found this article, https://thetoyreport.com/blog/play-outside/, on thetoyreport.com. It discusses the benefits of outdoor play and I thought some of the benefits listed were really interesting and unexpected.
