How do I make my room look bigger?

Making a room look bigger doesn’t have to be a complicated process. It starts with simply getting rid of the clutter in the area. Clutter is one of the things that can make a room look smaller than it is. Be sure to take a careful look at your things and sort out which ones are taking up space and decide if you’re still going to keep them or get rid of them. It’s possible that after some decluttering and sorting out, you find that there are still things you just can’t get rid of. For that, you can find storage solutions that will make organizing easier but won’t make your space look crowded.

Another easy way to make a room look bigger is to clear out the room. This can mean rearranging furniture in such a way as to make the room look more open, replacing bulky furniture with those that feature a sleek design. It may also be time to replace some lighting fixtures with more modern ones that aren’t bulky but are rather tall like floor lamps which come in all sorts of designs and styles.

A limited room space will also benefit from neutral colour schemes like white, beige, ivory, and gray. If you still want to incorporate colour, you’ll do well with cooler and softer tones that will make the space look brighter and more spacious. Light blues, light greens, light purples are all cool and soothing colours that don’t look overpowering and will make your room look bigger and airy.

One last tip: Don’t forget lighting. Of course, you have natural light during the day which you can take advantage of to make the space look bigger. But it’s also important to invest in good lighting fixtures like the floor lamp mentioned earlier. You can also choose bed headwall lights and LED ceiling lights to create the illusion of a bigger space.  If you’re looking for an online lighting store where you can find the perfect lighting for a small room, visit OZLighting today.

There are tricks you can do to make a space seem larger than it really is. First, you have to declutter. Review all the stuff you have and clear out those that you no longer use and are only hogging more space.

Second, consider painting the walls white or other neutral colours. Let as much natural light to come through by being smart with your window treatments. You can also add floor standing lamps, pendant lamps, and other sources of supplemental lighting if your room doesn’t have enough windows or doesn’t get sunlight very much.

Lastly, add mirrors to create the illusion of a bigger space. You might also want to rethink your furniture and switch to those with reflective surfaces to bounce more light around.

Despite these tips, there’s only so much that a non-professional can do. If you intend to make a huge transformation, check out DesignbyDeborah.co.uk. They have the best interior designer in Berkshire and you can see some of their samples at their website.
