Teaching people about animal rights is easy as there is a lot of information available on the internet that can help you. As part of the social studies class that I teach, I’ve been teaching people about this for a few years. Here are some of my tips:
– Teach both sides of the argument
It’s easy to come down on one side in this argument because almost everybody loves animals. However, the debate surrounding animal rights activist group runs much deeper than a love for animals. I personally think that in order to fully understand the animal rights movement, it’s important to dissect the actions and agendas of mainstream animal rights groups.
– Discuss the impact of meat-eating and animal testing
The animal rights discussion goes much further than just liking or disliking cute puppies. Discussing the impact that animal rights legislation has on farming in the US and animal testing can help your students to develop a more well-rounded opinion.
