There is no set way to become a florist. In fact, there are many different methods that you can use if you would like to become a florist. One of those ways is to obtain training through a formal education. After you graduate from high school or get your GED, you can take many classes at a college that will help you become a florist. These classes include biology, art, botany, design, and photography – even business classes can help if you plan on opening your own shop.
There are formal training classes that specialize in floristry and floral design subjects. Formalized training can be attended at private floral schools, community colleges, and vocational schools. These classes will typically cover topics such as indoor floral design, foliage, decorating, wedding design, business skills, event planning, and many more.
Be sure to look for programs that are approved by the American Institute of Floral Designers. Check out Pearsons School of Floristry if you are interested in learning more about becoming a florist.
