Can I remove walls from my property?

That really depends on which wall. I recently had a meeting with a party wall surveyor in London who told me that the external walls of my house aren’t mine to do what I want with. I live in a semi-detached property so one of my walls is shared with a neighbour. If I wanted to damage this wall in any way, including removing it, then I’d need to serve a notice to my neighbour.

Even if a wall is completely owned by you, you must still be careful. For instance, ripping off the front of your home affects the house across the street and you’d need to seek planning permission which will likely be denied. Internal walls are a different story. If you own them, then you don’t need permission to remove them. However, you still need a reputable surveyor to do the work safely. For help if you do need to issue a notice, visit this site.
