It’s no joke, let me tell you. Fortunately, I went to this great alcohol and drug rehab center, and the support staff really helped me to get through it, but it wasn’t pleasant. I had a big problem with alcohol dependency, so some of my symptoms were pretty severe. Others have it a lot more mild.

For me, I had hand tremors, visual hallucinations, and even one seizure. I also sweat a lot and found it tough to sleep at the beginning. I felt nauseous all the time and had a lot of bad headaches. It takes a toll on you psychologically too. I had awful mood swings and really can’t praise my support workers enough for having such patience with me.

Still, you get through it. Apparently symptoms are worse within the first 48 hours and it gets easier from there. Every day, it becomes less of a challenge. I always tell everyone that the withdrawal experience is nothing compared to the joy of beating alcoholism. It’s worth it, believe me.
