Iron infusion is a medical practice that is typically recommended to individuals who have severe iron deficiency called anaemia, or those who cannot tolerate oral iron supplements. Iron deficiency anaemia occurs when your body lacks sufficient iron to produce an adequate number of red blood cells. These causes lead to symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath.

There may be certain conditions that can contribute to iron deficiency. These can be chronic gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease, heavy menstrual bleeding, and conditions affecting the absorption of iron in the digestive tract. In cases where oral iron supplements are ineffective or not well-tolerated due to gastrointestinal side effects, iron infusion becomes a true saviour.

Pregnant women who experience severe iron deficiency may also get benefits from iron infusions, which also supports their immune system. Additionally, certain patients undergoing major surgery or cancer treatments can also require the demand for iron. So, infusion is the most efficient way to replenish iron levels.

This infusion is a faster and more direct method of administering iron into the bloodstream compared to oral supplements. It ensures a rapid increase in iron levels. This can be particularly crucial in cases where immediate correction of iron deficiency is necessary to alleviate symptoms and improve overall health.
