Where should my business be focusing on in America?

If you intend to try and break into the American scene for your business, you must first focus on where you will target. Given how federalized America is, you should first focus on one or two states. Build slowly – look for the states where you are the most suitable. For example, if you sell umbrellas, it might not be wise to make Arizona or California your first port of call. Instead, focus on the ‘rainy’ states – places like Oregon, for example, might be a better place to begin.

The best thing that I did was hire Kadence. They are a market research agency in USA that provides some excellent insight into areas for potential growth for a business. By helping me to understand better where I might be going wrong, they ensured I stopped targeting the wrong audience and refocused my aims.

That was very important as it made it much easier to reach my long-term goals. By better appreciating where I was making mistakes, it became much quicker to start avoiding those pitfalls. So, for example, I stopped trying to target people who were out of my typical age range, and we found some specific geographical areas where my products and services would be most beneficial and suitable.

For years I spent a lot of money targeting the wrong states, the wrong cities, and the wrong kinds of people. It meant that our business kind of kicked its tires for 2-3 years before we got going. With a US marketing agency helping us out, we understood better where our products sat within the US industry and thus made meaningful progress.
