Defibrillators are there to extend and improve the quality of the patient’s life. As such, you shouldn’t worry about risks unnecessarily – your doctor wouldn’t recommend it the benefits didn’t outweigh the risks.

For the most part, complications arising from an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator are rare. These complications/risks include:

  • The implant site becomes infected
  • The patient has an allergic reaction to medication that is used in the procedure
  • The patient may experience swelling, bruising, or bleeding at the implant site.
  • There may be damage to the patient’s vein near the implant site
  • It may cause life-threatening bleeding around the heart
  • The batteries in the defibrillator may fail

As I said, whilst these risks sound serious, they’re very uncommon. The last risk regarding the batteries can be avoided by regular checkups of your battery and by making sure your battery is from a good manufacturer like Euro Energy Resources Limited.
