get my dog to take his medicine…

If it’s liquid medicine, you can try to offer your pet a tasty, wet dog food to mask its taste. If for some reason he’s still able to smell or taste it, you can try using a syringe to give the medicine directly in his mouth.

Now if it’s a pill, you can ask your vet if you can crush it before mixing it with your dog’s food. You can also hide it in some sausage, cream cheese, and other treats. Dogs tend to sniff the very first thing you give them, so one good trick to hide the scent is by giving him a piece of the treat without the pill first. You can then give him the second one with the pill immediately, and follow it up with another piece as a treat.

If all else fails, your last resort would be to get them to swallow the pill directly. It won’t be easy at first, as it involves actually opening his mouth and placing the pill at the back of his throat. Many owners are hesitant to do this themselves, but if your dog is comfortable with you touching him and trusts you completely, it shouldn’t be an issue.
