2012 Interns and Volunteers

In just a few weeks we have a superstar coming on board to help us grow the Detroit Hotel Project.  We are thrilled to be working with him. Throughout this process we have come across so many talented and inspiring and beautiful humans with smarts and solid intuition to boot. If you ever need a charge to remind you why you do what you do invite a bunch of people under 30 into the process. The perspectives are thoughtful, refreshing, and intelligent. If you are open it can change you in profound ways. We are so grateful to have met all these people.

Brian Moore just finished his third year at University of Detroit Mercy in the School of Architecture.  He’s on the executive board of the AIAS organization there (American Institute of Architecture Students) and chairing the marketing and publicity committee.  His dream is to work for Disney Imagineering designing the parks and other properties. He likes our project because like Disney, it all begins with a good story. He likes travel, outdoors, and has the honor and distinction of achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. We absolutely need an Eagle Scout on our team. When we talked to some of Brian’s peers at school (doing our homework on him!) we learned that he is a highly conceptual thinker with great capacity and rigor to pull it all together. These are tremendous gifts we are eager to tap into.

We also have two Elite Volunteers, special forces, black ops, secret weapons. These two have agreed to pitch in and help us in-between the very demanding full-time jobs and families they already have!

Bryan Shishakly is currently pursuing a Masters of Architecture degree from the University of Detroit Mercy by studying, analyzing and designing for the contemporary urban condition of Detroit. He’s the proud father of a beautiful baby girl named Claire and enjoys spending every moment of downtime he has with her. He said that working on the Detroit Hotel Project will help him conceptualize groundbreaking ideas and make them realistically possible, allowing him him to get further involved with other grassroots projects within Detroit. Bryan’s integrity and deep city knowledge are a he asset to us.

Deborah Schumack is Vader on vacation. A nerd in super -ninja- stealth mode. And she believes that to love design one must respect passion. She loves the color black, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Popcorn. She’s all about Detroit and recently graduated with a bachelors in Digital Media. She loves baking pies! Her enthusiasm is contagious and we are honored to have her on the team.
